Lanna 10-A-Side Championship

The 2nd Lanna Rugby 10s league kicks off on the weekend of 12th September 2020 in Chiang Mai. This year will have 4 teams competing over 10 weeks for the Chiang Mai Lanna Trophy. Last years Champions the Chiang Mai All Stars sadly cant defend their title as they are struggling to field a team. Hopefully they will be back to compete again next year.

This years competing teams are 

Chiang Mai University, Lanna Rugby Club, Payap Rugby Club & TNSU-CMI Rugby Club.

A meeting of the clubs coaches, managers & chief of the referees Khun Kit was chaired by Thomas Stubley the driving force behind the league, to go over the finer points of how the league will be run and refereed. Games will be 3 x 10 minutes with 4 points for the winner and the possibility of bonus points for scoring more than 4 tries or finishing within 7 points when losing the game. The action promises to be full on and looking forwards to discovering new talent. Its hoped that the league will raise awareness of the game in the region with the aim of expanding the league with more teams in the years ahead.

Plans are also afoot to start developing a youth development program in schools to further enhance the game & bring more people into the playing, coaching & refereeing roles that such an expansion would require
